Quality Service Initiative

The Quality Service Initiative program is the brain child of Oregon Tourism Commission Chair Gerry Frank. The program was created to provide Oregon communities with an opportunity to participate in educational programming designed to teach service industry employees about customer service. Recognizing that excellence in service has long been touted as the key to success in the tourism industry, Frank and the Commission sought to create a sustainable educational program that could be utilized by the communities of Oregon to help establish high quality customer service for Oregon's traveling guests.

The objectives of the plan include:

  • Incorporating tourism awareness and hospitality training into the mainstream educational curriculum
  • Focusing on the owners of businesses in order to gain long-term commitment to high-quality visitor service
  • Generating community-wide support and enthusiasm for the industry by elevating the level of tourism understanding and awareness
  • Using community volunteers and leadership organizations to sustain the program
  • Making quality customer service and visitor services an important priority for the Tourism Commission and for Oregon

The QSI Program is managed by the Commission's Tourism Development Manager. Ethos Hospitality is currently contracted to implement the program in participating communities.
